
Bacon Brown Sugar Green Beans
With many variations this side dish offers choices to please most tastes and menus.
Ingredients
- 1 can 28 oz. Allens® Cut Italian Green Beans, well-drained in a colander
- 4 strips bacon
- 2 Tbsp. butter or bacon drippings
- 3 Tbsp. packed brown sugar
- 1/8 tsp. red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans optional
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook bacon until crispy; crumble and set aside.
- Heat butter or bacon drippings in same skillet over medium-high heat. Add green beans and stir until heated through, about 2 minutes.
- Sprinkle with brown sugar, red pepper flakes and pecans, if desired, and continue cooking until most of the liquid is evaporated and beans are lightly glazed. Top with bacon and serve.
Notes
VARIATIONS: Prepare recipe as directed, except add your choice of flavor variation with the brown sugar in Step 3.
Vinegar-Onion -Add 1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion and 2 tsp. cider or white vinegar
Garlic-Ginger - Add 1 clove minced garlic or 1/4 tsp. garlic powder and 1 tsp. minced fresh ginger
Spicy Garlic - Add 1 tsp. minced garlic and increase red pepper flakes to 1/4 tsp.
